How to Play
There are quite a few different ways to bet in Blackjack Classic, but here are some quickfire points to get you started:
- Classic Blackjack is always played with four standard decks of 52 cards
- The standard number cards from 2-10 are worth the value they display
- The picture cards, Jack, Queen and King, are all worth 10
- The Ace is flexible and can act as a 1 or 11 depending on what you land and how you wish to play
- You play against a computerised dealer
Game Structure
The dealer will deal you and itself two cards each. Your cards will be dealt face up, so that both you and the dealer can see what you have. The dealer’s cards will have one facing up and the other facing down.
This is where the game really begins.
Check your cards to see what they add up to. To get another card in an attempt to make your total up to 21, click ‘Hit’. You can do this more than once, depending on the total. If you get near to 21, or 21 exactly, you can hit ‘Stand’ to stick where you are. If you go beyond 21, you are ‘bust’, and the dealer automatically wins.
The dealer will then turn over their other card, and their total must be 17 or above. If it is below 17, the dealer must take another card.
You will then see whether you or the dealer has won.
- If you get closer to 21, than the dealer, you win
- If the dealer’s extra card takes the total beyond 21, your hand will win
- If you have the same hand as the dealer, your bet will be returned in what is called a ‘push’
- If the dealer beats you, you lose that game
The Coveted Blackjack
In an ideal game, you would be dealt a 10-value card and an Ace. This is an automatic win. If you are dealt a Blackjack, you will win 1.5 times your bet.
If, however, the dealer is dealt a Blackjack, you will automatically lose.
Insurance
If the dealer’s visible card is an Ace, you can bet on whether they will have a Blackjack or not.
If just playing one hand, you will see two buttons, one which will bet on the insurance, and one which does not.
The insurance bet is half of your original bet and classed as an independent bet to the cards you play.
When playing more than one hand at a time you will see the following:
- ‘Yes’ means buy insurance for a single hand
- ‘Yes to all’ means you can buy insurance against all hands in play
- ‘No’ declines for a single hand
- ‘No to all’ declines for all hands in play
If the dealer does, in fact, have a Blackjack, then you will win twice the amount of your insurance bet. If the dealer does not get the Blackjack, you would lose out on the insurance bet, but will still have your original cards in play.
Even Money
If you have Blackjack and the dealer’s visible card is an Ace, you will be offered even money. This means you will get back one times your bet.
Splitting
If you are dealt two cards of the same value, you will have the opportunity to split the cards and play them separately with another ‘Hit’. You will play each of the split hands one at a time, and then the dealer will reveal their hand and you will find out who wins.
If you Split Aces, you will be dealt a second card, but you won’t be able to ‘Hit’ again.
Double
If you’re feeling confident after seeing your first two cards, you have the opportunity to double your bet. If you do double, you will only be able to ‘Hit’ one more card afterward to complete your hand.
Get Set to Play
Now that you know what’s what, here’s how to get set up to play.
There are little different coloured chips to the bottom right of the screen, 1, 5, and 10. These are the different values of chips you can bet.
Click whichever coin you like and click within a circle on the table. To add an extra one on, just click again in the position on the table. If you want to mix two chip amounts together, simply click on the other chip you want at the bottom right and click back in the circle.
You can play more than one hand against the dealer if you wish. Each circle on the table is an individual position, so wherever you place your chips, you will be dealt cards.
